As you may or  may not know, today is World Environment Day and as we all try to do our bit for the planet today, whether that be walking or cycling to work, recycling the paper in the office or something as simple as using that same old plastic bag for the tenth time, every little counts.

We here at Hachu are no exception!

'There is no Planet B'

And as much as we all love it, beauty's got a problem – and it's costing the earth. From plastic packaging to deforestation and the harmful chemicals within formulas, the beauty industry has come under fire for using materials that are negatively affecting our environment.

So there is no better day than today to educate yourself on some of the beauty industry's Eco-friendly alternatives, and to make this super easy for you, we have hand selected some of our personal fave beauty routine alternatives for you to try out yourselves:

Reusable Cotton Swabs

Cotton buds are essential for our beauty regimens for makeup application and removal, as well as earwax digging (we know we're not supposed to but we all do it anyway). It is said that we as humans use 1.2 BILLION cotton swabs a day! SO a long term, better for the environment alternative is these set of two silicone cotton buds (one smooth, one textured) that comes in a convenient carry case, they can be used for makeup application and removal, as well as ear cleaning.

Solid Deodorant

Solid soap bars are staging a come back. Until recently, I generally only associated soap bars with my grandma’s bathroom,  but now it seems like soap bars are cool again, thanks to the plastic-free movement. Soap bars use much less packaging to store, and less water to produce. Plus, they tend to last a lot longer.

Solid Shampoo

Replacing your bottled shampoo with a shampoo bar is a great way to transition your beauty routine to one that is more Eco-friendly. Shampoo bars are biodegradable and don’t come in plastic packaging. They’re typically free of toxic chemicals that can find their way into waterways and animals.Standard sized shampoo bars can be used for 80 washes—that’s typically more than a standard shampoo bottle.
Since many shampoo bars contain nourishing ingredients and no harmful chemicals, you may also be able to skip the conditioner saving yourself even more money.

Reusable Cotton Pads

Pie off your plastic wrapped face wipes and cotton pads for this reusable, microfiber makeup remover pads. Just add water and a little bit of elbow grease to see mascara, foundation and more lift off before your eyes. No chemicals down the sink or waste in the bin. And when your all done, just pop them in the wash and they're ready to use again.

Biodegradable Glitter

Glitter might seem harmless, but it’s a micro-plastic, which makes it truly terrible for the environment. This alternative is made primarily from eucalyptus, which not only means that it biodegradable, but also makes it much softer than plastic glitters, perfect for festival season!

Bamboo Makeup Brushes

Flawless make professionally designed makeup brushes handmade in the UK from sustainably-sourced bamboo and PETA-approved cruelty-free synthetic brushes. These eco-friendly makeup brushes are a great zero waste alternative to conventional plastic cosmetic brushes.

Soap on a Rope

Soaps are often packaged with disposal plastic, these handmade soaps on the other hand are packaged in plastic-free packaging and you can even choose from them to not be wrapped in the paper branded packaging if you prefer. Each soap is made in Devon in small batches using fine natural ingredients. The added element of the rope, makes the soap super convenient the perfect soap for in the shower.
